Quarter Horse racing occurs two weekends in August at the Oneida County Fair in Malad City, Idaho. The fairgrounds are located at 459 South Main Street, just south of downtown. The track is a one-half mile oval that runs counter-clockwise. The fair is home to the Oneida County Futurity and the Oneida County Derby. The usual process is trial one weekend and races the next. Most years there are only 3 races but in 2014 there were 4. All betting is parimutuel. Wagers are accepted from visitors 18 years of age and older.
Quarter Horses and some mixed breeds run the Oneida County Futurity and Craig Daniels Memorial Derby over 2 weekends of trials and races in the beginning of August. With money added, the purses can go as high as $35,000 at this out of the way, quiet little Idaho town. The track is fast and there is always a good turnout. Parimutuel betting is accepted from visitors 18 and older.
