COMMERCE CITY —  Council members this evening debated the merits of a six-month moratorium on hydraulic fracturing in the city, which drew sharp comments from some who are afraid

The City Council late Monday night unanimously voted to continue an ordinance which temporarily bans hydraulic fracturing and drilling operations within the city until Feb. 27.

Even in this bastion of industry that hosts a refinery, residents are imploring their elected leaders to protect them from oil and gas drilling planned within city limits.

The Commerce City Council is continuing a moratorium on oil and gas drilling to give officials more time to study the issue before voting on a long-term moratorium.
