We stayed in Hotel Al Gabero in October 2008. It was very nice and exactly as advertised. The hotel was a little hard to find but Venice in general is difficult to navigate. Our room was beautiful, clean and had a very modern bathroom. We had a window that overlooked the canal and you could hear the gondoliers singing as they passed by. They do not have an elevator which was not a problem for us but could be an issue if you don't want to climb the stairs. We were able to access the internet in their lobby without any issues. It is a central location to everything in Venice. A short walk away from San Marco and the Rialto. A basic continental breakfast is included. The staff was not very good at recommending restaurants (other than their own). Try Restaurant Noemi just down the street (towards San Marco), the scampi with zucchini and tomatoes was amazing. Overall we were very pleased with our stay and would absolutely recommend it.

The hotel was very difficult to find, and we ended up dragging our luggage all over the city. The room was very clean and nice, but we had to carry our luggage up several flights of stairs. We had a room with a canal view, and while lovely, it was very loud in the morning. There was no room service, and the internet was not available 24hrs. I would reccomend this hotel to a friend, as the room itself was quite comfortable.
