Nice, But....

We stayed in the newer of the 2 buildings on the 21st of August. The staff and rooms were very nice but I do not see this as a 4 diamond property. For that designation I would expect climate control, not an in the wall, stand alone A/C unit. Although the evening was pleasant weather wise you can not leave the sliding door open due to the amount of traffic noise on Rt 3 directly below the building. Shuttle service to the restaurant and other Bar Harbor locations was nice - but for $* for 1 night I expect better of the facility and AAA.

Disappointing hotel stay--there are much better choices

I feel the view from their adds is very misleading. The view given on the websites is of the newer building at the front. There is a much larger building towards the rear (where the picture was probably take from) that is much older and, in my opinion, not near a 4 diamond rating from AAA. This area is not pictured in their adds. This is where our room was. Also the restuarant is a good hike from this hotel at a sister property and if you want to go into Bar Harbor, you have to take a bus that picks you up at the sister property and takes you to the village green. It does run very often, but on the way home, it takes at least 30 minutes to get back to the hotel that otherwise would be a 3 minute trip. They do not offer a private shuttle. The room was adequate but the bathroom and sink area are very small and not worthy of a 4 star rating--a 2 or maybe a 3 at most. There is a very nice view from the bluff the hotel sits on, but your "balcony" is the common walkway that connects all the outside rooms on one level. They do give you two plastic chairs to sit on if you choose. For the price of this 4 diamond hotel, I was very disappointed. We left after one night and found a fabulous hotel in town and on the harbor for nearly the same price. Not even a comparison.

From the woman who made the reservations to the front desk staff everybody was wonderful. Hotel was one of the cleanest hotels I have ever stayed in. Beds were extemely comfortable. Everyone went out of their way to make our family vacation perfect. I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Maine.
