The hotel is gorgeous & right on the water! Staff at the desk was wonderful, very helpful and professional - even checked when high tide would be so we could go to Thunder Hole. Our room had a doorbell and a heatlamp in the bathroom, 2 things I've never really seen and kinda got a kick out of.. continental breakfast served between 7-11am in a cozy room with a beautiful view of the water - also tables set up to enjoy breakfast outside. Checking in & out was a breeze and since I went in April

Absolutely wonderful stay! Comfortable beds and beautiful view of the harbor. The continental had fresh fruit and coffee cake. There were multiple cereal choices; as well as bread choices. It was so peaceful! The coffee was hot and strong, just the way I like it! The only two minuses; the television reception was awful (even though there was cable) and I didn't have the time to enjoy a cup of coffee on the balcony!

My husband and I stayed at the Bar Harbor Inn 11 years ago (pre-children) and had a lovely time. The room was nice, the breakfasts were great and the Reading Room was really fine dining. Fast forward 11 years, we now have 3 young children and decided to take a family trip to Bar Harbor. Although I made the reservation online, I called first and addressed the issue of 3 children. We booked a 2 level / loft suite. Upon arrival, we find that there is one king size bed upstairs, and a queen size sofabed on the main level. Yes, there was more space than an average hotel room, but there was really no accommodation made for 3 children. And this was at the rate of $* per night! With this particular room, the hotel does not allow the "add-on" package which would have included breakfast(s) and dinner for 2 nights, although with a regular room with 2 queen beds we could have had the package and still not have paid as much as we did just for the room! I will say however, that the staff was very nice. One of the managers, understanding why we were upset and not being able to change our room since the hotel was fully committed, gave us a voucher for a complimentary dinner. So one evening we ate in the Reading Room. Service, while friendly, was a bit slow and the food was not good at all.
The decor has not been upgraded since we were there 11 years ago and everything--the bathrooms in particular, were dated. Toiletry amenities were very poor. Housekeeping was not very good either.
Next time we will stay elsewhere.
