We stayed at the Bay Club last march. It was a very nice place to stay. However it was a hard place to find for us. Once we got there our first empression was that is was a nice place. And we were correct. Everyone who worked there with the exception of the bartender were very polite and helpful people. We purchased the free dinner for 2 package. And let me tell you, it was one of the best dinners ihave enjoyed in many years. Our waiter was outstanding also. It also included a fabulous breakfast buffet the next day as well. Our room was very spacious with everything we needed. We did stop by the bar the night before at 9pm and we left after 15 minutes. The bartender was the rudest person i met there. He wouldn't answer any questions for us with a complete answer. He was to busy watching a cooking show on the big screen t.v. I ask if he could turn on some music and he snapped at me with the answr "NO". Except for him it was a great stay and my wife and enjoyed it very much.

Well, this past weekend, Kerry and I went to San Diego to visit my sister and relax a few days. The weather was perfect 78 degrees and the weekend couldn't have been better. It was quite a mix of events from generousity, to catastrophe, and family bonding as well. Anytime I can get out of the Arizona heat is a plus. Ok...so here goes....we took off in the Hummer 10 am and got to San diego about 5 hours later but that included stops in YUMA for about 20 minutes and the Vieja reservation for some gas. Pretty good time and the best part is we took 80 WEST all the way and stayed only a few miles off 80 at a wonderful place called the BAY CLUB Hotel and Marina. A quaint place located on Shelter Island. We arrived and were greeted by a friendly front desk staff member named A. There was a gentleman behind her and I guess he overheard my conversation. He came up and introduced himself as the Front Desk Manager named T B. Very nice guy. We talked a little and realized we both loved basketball as well as played in high school and college. I told him I was originally from Baltimore and he said he played in the DC area. As luck would have it, we both graduated the same year from High School and we ended up sharing great stories and names that we both knew or played against. It was truly an enjoyable talk kind of like a high school reunion of sorts and sharing some of the best times of our lives. Well...as I was going to the room which was across from the bay and a great view already, the room phone rang and it was T who said, Hey Ray...don't unpack, I'm going to give you a nice room with a great view and he did just that. If that wasn't enough, he said...go ahead over to the bar and have a drink and we will get the room ready. We went to the bar, had a drink and ordered some Calamari which melted in your mouth. It was cooked perfectly and I am the roughest critic when it comes to the preparation of calamari and it better not be rubbery. This was perfect. I went to pay the tab and the waitress said..this is on T. Needless to say, (not that I am cheap), I was loving the hospitality and overall friendliness of the BAY CLUB. We went to the room and it was immaculate. My bags were already there and everything was hung in the closet neatly. The windows were wide open as was the door to the balcony which directly faced the San Diego downtown skyline. A perfect view. The breeze was awesome, the smell of the air and the perfect temperature alreadyhad me relaxing. Sorry folks, but unless you are a ball player from the East Coast, you wouldn't understand. There is a certain type of unspoken bond not only between ballplayers but also East Coast boyz! So we settled and had the best 3 day weekend imaginable. Every morning the Bay Club had a guests only FULL COURSE FREE BREAKFAST BUFFET with all the items and fruits and breads and juices etc...the works. Nice way to start the day. It sat right at the Marina and had cool views of all the sailboats etc and also had a health room, swimming pool, jacuzzi, etc. Again it was one of the top places I have visited for OVERALL everything. I am all about customer service and this place is text book the way they treat their people. Hats off to T B, an exemplary manager and all around great guy. I plan on getting Phoenix Suns tickets and inviting him over to AZ for a game which he said he would gladly attend. The BAY CLUB Hotel and Marina located at 2131 Shelter Island Drive, San Diego CA 92106.

We had never been in San Diego and we were pleasantly surprised when we checked in. Hotel is not modern but very clean. Staff was helpful with directions and recommendations. room is very spacious and had a balcony facing the marina. Small pool but while we were there was pretty much empty. Hot tub also nice. Best breakfast in all my travels. You can eat indoors in the dining room and outside on the patio (latter is nicer). Great parking on site and inexpensive too. Not too far from local attractions but you will need a car. Would absolutely, positively stay there again and again. Recommend to business travelers and families.

The location is fantastic, and the breakfact was a a perk. The hotel staff charged me for parking and extra occupancy when I had neither, had to go back 2 times to get the bill correct. Staff was rude when we tried to resolve the issue. The rooms need to be remodeled (smelled musty, stained carpet) and it felt like we paid too much for what we got.
