This inn seems to have eager new management that provides good service and fast check-in/check-out. The rooms are basic but clean and well-maintained. Rooms are accessed by an outdoor balcony and stairs - nice fresh air at your door. Free wi-fi and decent free breakfast buffet. Surrounding land is pleasant too - lots of trees and green space, not too industrial an area. Nice outdoor pool. Things to be improved: - hotel should offer reusable plates, mugs, cutlery instead of disposable styrofoam. By 9am the buffet users had filled two huge garbage bags with never-biodegradable styrofoam and plastic. Just for a breakfast! Imagine doing this 365 days per year, versus investing in just one set of mugs and plates! - hotel currently has a junky old ice machine that does not produce much ice. To compensate for this, they have a sign on it that says "ROOM ICE ONLY! NO FILLING YOUR ICE CHEST! $* FEE IF YOU DO!". Intead of waging a constant war on your customers because they are trying to fulfill a basic need for fresh food during their travels, why not UPGRADE THE ICE MACHINE and even add one on each floor to make happier, instead of fearful and grudging guests!? Despite these minor gripes, I would stay there again. One of the lowest-price hotels in Des-moines, and yet quite comfortable.

Upon entering the front lobby the staff at the check in desk were very friendly and efficient. Out check in time was quick and short. The rooms were clean and as it was July and hot the air was on and the room was cool. Out experience was good and would recommend this hotel to other travelers.

Let me say right off the bat, the gal at the front desk was very polite and friendly. When I checked in at around 10 pm their computer was down and she could not find our reservation. By the time I got back from my truck with the reservation information her computer was back up and she had me checked in. Now for the not so pleasant part.... When I opened the door to our room I nearly died! Not sure what was worse, the smell or the wave of heat that smacked me in the face as I walked in. I guess one should never assume that the air would be turned on for you, or at the very least a fan. It was 103 outside with the heat index when we checked in. My wife thought if we got the air turned on it would cool down quickly as it was such a small room. One would think anyway! I turned the air to MAX COOL and tried to relax. It did seem to cool down some. By midnight I was flopping around like a fish out of water as it was still so uncomfortable. As I decided to call for a room change I remembered the sign at the front desk saying they closed at 11:00.. By 3:00 I pushed every button on the a/c I could see and maybe got some cool air. The smell of urine never did decipate. The next morning we did request a new room for our second night, and they did move us. They did not seem to care why. Room two smelled better and the air worked ... but the toilet did not. (This may could explain the smell in the first room!) First and last time for Days Inn.
