We stayed in the Cabins at Moonlight Basin during a July 4th family vacation to the Yellowstone area. Moonlight Basin is located in the Big Sky ski resort a mile higher up the mountain past the Big Sky main resort village. These cabins are essentially the highest cabins in the resort area and therefore affer incredibly amazing views of the sourounding mountains and valley below. We stayed here in the Summer but these cabin are perfectly located next to a ski run so it would be a fantastic ski-in ski out winter location as well. The cabin was beautifully decorated in a cozy and tasteful western mountain rustic style. It had a well equipped full kitchen, washer & dryer, 2 full baths, a master and a guest bedroom with a great bunkbed and a third pull-out bed that would allow for additional capacity. The cabin even came with an assortment of board games and books. Finally, the hot tub on the front porch was great (104 max temp) and we were able to use the pool at the Moonlight Lodge Spa (very nice) located a 5 minute drive down the mountain. There is a wide range of Summer activities near by including hiking trail adjacent to cabin, bike trails, plentry of dining options as well as rock climbing, river rafting, fly fishing, etc. all within the Gallitin River valley and Big Sky area. West Yellowstone and entry to the park is about an hour+ drive away so it's not as convenient to the Park if that's your only destination but if you're looking to experience the area and don't want to deal with the tourist mobs in the park then this is your perfect Summer get away as Big Sky was mostly locals and very few tourists.
