By the grace of God, my daughter and I visited New Orleans and stayed at the Canal St Hotel. Our choice was based on our expectations of gracious hospitality, profesional customer service, tourist-friendly neighborhood ameneties and a room with a view. Speaking as a real New Yorker, the Canal St Hotel offered none of the above. It should be deeded over to their "Tent City" neighbors!

I have traveled to New Orleans many times and love the city. True, there are always many interesting sites to see and smell but this place goes way past anything I've ever seen or would like to see again. Once you get past the tents filled with the homeless people and the massive aroma of urine you can pull into the crumbling car garage with no working elevator. The next thing we encountered was trying to check in. We had already prepaid for both of our rooms on the travel website but the front desk clerk for some reason made us pay for one of our rooms again. Then we go to the elevator (that wouldn't work). We couldn't get it open at first and then once we got on, we couldn't get OFF! Finally walking down the hall towards the room, we were met with holes in the celings with dripping water and other odd things hanging out. Then reaching the room, the key wouldn't work because the door was painted shut. At this point, we turned around and left the hotel. It was St. Patrick's Day weekend and all hotels were booked but we would rather stay in our vehicles than sleep one night in this hotel. Fortunately, we were able to find a very nice room at the Bourbon Street Inn. We paid much more for the room, but it was well worth every penny. This hotel does not deserve even half a smiley face!

Instead of being greeted by the staff when I walked into the lobby, the first thing that was said to me was "driver's license". I was confused about the name of the hotel because I booked it thinking it was a Days Inn. When I asked about this, the response was again "driver's license."
When I got in to my room, I couldn't believe how dirty it was. There was someone's prescription medication on the floor by one of the beds. The smell of mildew in the room was overpowering. The heat was stuck on. It was suffocating. I had to open the door to my room and the door to the balcony to get any air in there at all.
I booked a smoking room and never did get an ashtray. There was no coffee in the room. The paint in the bathroom was cracking off the walls. The shower was the worst I've ever had. Everything in the bathroom leaked.
The tent city of homeless people across the street was a bit unnerving. They never bothered us, but still made us uncomfortable.
All in all, this was the worst experience I have ever had. The accomodations at a campground would have been better. -

Everything everyone has said about this hotel is absolutely true. Our ac wasn't working either and when we called about it, they said that had just started happening and they were working on it. I don't know how true that is, but when we first walked into the room it was incredibly stuffy and smelled of mildew, despite the fact that the unit was running. The water pressure in the shower was practically nonexistant, and the bathtub was so small I doubt my 13 year old son could've layed down in it. On the back of the bathroom door was an obscene drawing that they apparently couldn't totally wash off.
I would also like to add that the parking garage is unattended and poorly lit. Considering the area is not exactly the best, we were fairly nervous about parking there, but we had no choice as we had driven down. Take my advice and save up for a better hotel. -
