a jewel box of a hotel , its charm lies in the details. for example: instead of a key card, guests are issued real brass keys that make a reassuring sound when the lock engages or disengages. the lobby is splendid, intimate and clubby. staff are quite solicitous and do what they can to make the stay comfortable. the property is centrally located, about a 7 minute walk (15 minutes in heels and/or bad weather) from the convention center, state capitol building, the marriott and the westin. i found it to be a perfect home base, as i could physically leave my conference venue and its buzz at the end of the day and go off to my quiet room. overall, a lovely hotel. couple of things to know: it's a non-smoking property; there is a side entrance through which the porters enter and exit leading to a little alley where one can smoke. if you're vegetarian or vegan, your options at the restaurant (and pretty much the rest of indianapolis) will be limited. i prefer a firm mattress and found the bed a bit soft for my taste. wi-fi is free but a bit slow during peak hours. there is no pay-per-view movie service. if you're into shopping, the hotel has a private, direct entrance to the city centre mall.

Stayed in. Junior King Suite. Lots of space, no desk though. TV is an old tube TV. Water pressure through avower head was really inadequate; had to do a sponge bath instead. No wonder I found the room discounted by 50% or so. Won't go back.

It's an older, historic hotel, so the rooms were small but sufficient for two of us. The attention from staff was superb--and they were even busy with a wedding going on. It was a little congested for the parking situation (stopping in street), but the staff was very helpful and friendly. We remarked about how quiet it was. My back is picky on mattresses, and I didn't get a backache. They also upgraded our room to a king upon request. Very handy location for walking to most everything. We went to the Murat, and the staff had a cab there in no time. I wouldn't have necessarily called it a four-star, but was definitely worth what we paid.
