We loved this place. Very friendly people working there, an innovative concept and futuristic rooms made our stay in Amsterdam that much more memorable. The location is very convenient with only a block between the train station and the hotel and a block between the hotel and the tram line to downtown. The online price was quite reasonable. So here are some of the unique things that I liked. The futuristic shower and toilet tubes in the room as well as the magic remote controller and wall to wall bed define the CitizenM experience. I love the light color controls and the way the remote greeted me by name when I entered the room. They have wifi everywhere and a common area with cubes for you laptop or a few supplied Mac computers and printer. There are also some couches and TVs in the common area. You can use your M key-card to pay for snacks, cocktails, beer and some salads or sushi 24 hours. It is fun to interact with the other guests in the common area and all in all I think the concept works. All great and I will definitely come back when I have the opportunity. So that leaves some of the things that were not as good as they could be. The wifi connection was very slow, especially in the room. Downstairs it was good enough to make a Skype call but in the room it lost connection frequently and refused to reconnect sometimes. The heat didn't really seem to work or get warm enough anyway. They could see and control remotely but couldn't actually get it warmer. All in all nothing to mar an otherwise enjoyable experience.
