  I had to be in Olympia for business and didn't know where to stay. I booked a room at the Governor Hotel which seemed like a nice place and was downtown. They had a nice website which made the rooms appear to be clean. It was also one of the pricier options in Olympia and seemed to have some good perks like free breakfast and free parking. However, I was sorely disappointed--verging on disgusted--when I arrived. It is a very old, run-down hotel that clearly hasn't been renovated in years. The lobby and restaurant weren't too bad and the staff were friendly, but the hallways and rooms were awful. I had a non-smoking room that reeked of smoke. The carpet was stained. The bed was uncomfortable and the bedding was thin and cheap. They didn't have wireless and the ethernet didn't work. The shower kept going back and forth between extremely hot and extremely cold. To top it off, when I got out of the shower I realized there were no bath towels, so I had to dry myself with hand towels. It was not a good experience. I've heard the Phoenix Hotel is the preferred hotel in the area, so I'll be staying there next time.

• Governor Good enuf for gov work

  I loved it. nice view, window opens, coffee maker in room (bring your own coffee tho), did not smell. beds old.

  Dirty and due for a restoration.visible dirt in elevator. stained carpets. lousy heat/cool system in room. stained bathroom fixtures. great location and view.

  We had moved to this hotel from another down the street which was terrible, and we were very pleased with the whole Governor Hotel experience. Bathroom didn't have a fan, and room was too warm, even with AC on high. Elevator was noisy and somewhat scary, but seemed to work just fine. We'd definitely stay there again. Location was the best, and the staff was even better!
