We just came back from a great vacation in the Grand Bahia Principe. Although the weather was very bad we had a terrific time. The stuff was extremely friendly and the entertainment team did a really good job of keeping our kids entertained while it was poring rain. One thing that we missed was a hot tub, but over all we had a terrific time and would go again.

My wife and I have toured most of the Dominican Republic and have stayed at various chain and boutique resort hotels. Before we begin we would like to tell you that this hotel is not in La Romana it is actually just on the outskirts of San Pedro de Macoris which is 30-45 minutes from La Romana. The hotel grounds and prospected project are well groomed and maintained by caring staff. The hotel is always kept clean in ALL areas at ALL times. Rooms are are large but could use a little modernizing which is sad to say about a hotel only three years old. The buffet restaurant has a rotating evening theme for its meals. Do not expect anything out of this world as it really is only two dishes that change. The a la carte restaurants left much to be desired. The staff is very friendly and lively. However compared to other hotels the entertainment troupe really needed work. Activities were scarce and repeated daily. The evening show was usually poor with dancing and did not involve the audience as other troupes do. For excurions dont book at the hotel as the prices are usually 200 higher than what you get in town. If you are looking to have fun on your vacation this is not the hotel for you. This hotels visitors are usually under 12 or over 45 years of age. The hotel bar closes at 11pm as soon as the show is done and the night club does not open until midnight. Do not expect much life in there either. My wife and I were so bored we drove 3 1/2 hours to Punta Cana and Babaro to feel as if we were on vacation instead of prisoners in a hotel.

Looking for a hotel for my Honeymoon in DR, I was wary of this one due to the previous reviews. After talking to a travel agency rep, I was told that this company has many resorts around the Carribean, and to consider the fact that the one bad review here was only regarding a hotel manager. Taking a risk, I pulled the trigger and booked Gran Bahia Principe for a week. We could not have been happier. The grounds are manicured and cultivated daily, the beach simply could not be finer, and the food was exceptional. Above all the great amenities though, was the amazing staff. The staff works tirelessly: always at our beck and call, greeting us with a smile every minute. Since this is an all inclusive property, I had expected the hotel to take every opportunity to up-sell us to better wines, meals, etc. Yet, we actually had to look for ways to spend any money. There was no pressure what-so-ever. Only two negatives worth mentioning. The rooms are large, clean and comfortable, but could use some minor maintenance and a coat of paint. But hopefully you will not be spending much time in your room anyway. Secondly, the excursions that are available are run by separate vendors. Take these at your own risk. We paid $* for a daily excursion that no-showed us the first day, and was then rescheduled for the next day with half of the tour. It was VERY difficult to get our money back, and we later found out that we paid far more than anyone else on the excursion. My advice, don't be afraid to barter for your price, and don't hesitate to get the hotel manager involved to ensure a fair and timely response.

My husband and I go to the Dominican Republic every month. We always stay at a different resort and always have had a wonderful time there. This time however was a nightmare. We had a late arrival and soon after arriving at the front desk we were told that our reservation was never received from our online travel website; hence, they did not honor our prepaid booking. We asked to speak to the Manager to try to solve the issue but we received nothing but bad service and rejection. Supposedly the hotel was full and there was no room available. We immediately got on the phone with the online travel website to solve the problem. Not knowing that our biggest problem was yet to come. We were immediately told by the General Manager and his security crew that we needed to leave the premises. We did not have the right to be at the front desk he said, so we went into the rental car while we were on the phone with the online website to workout a solution. Security once again informed us that we were not even allowed to be in the parking lot and we were told once again that we needed to leave the premises completely. When I peacefully refused to leave I was informed that excessive force shall be used against us if we did not leave within 15 minutes. This was very degrading, frustrating and traumatizing. One do not expect this from the General Manager at a 5-star resort. I never would have thought this would ever happen to anyone and let alone to me. I strongly suggest everyone reading this review not to go to that resort. Offensive treatments should not be tolerated. There are many other great resorts in the Dominican Republic that you could consider!!!
