When we checked in, the Manager told us that after hours, the doors would be locks. While I would never consider Stowe Vt. a dangerous place to visit, I understand exterior locks on a facility. Never did I dream that the lockdown would be so complete. My wife at 10 pm went to the Lobby to have a little private time. She unlocked the room and went to the Lobby, after about an hour or so, she went to return to the room and was locked out. She repeatedly tried to contact the Night Manager via phone only to get a voice mail box . There is an after hours phone in the vestibule for emergency?s only but a) we were never told about it and b) the writing is small and she was without her glasses so couldn?t read anything. Around 4 plus hours of being locked out, she finally found room keys in a front desk drawer (talk about great security, NOT) and let herself in. Why the front desk and every phone in this place doesn?t ring to the after-hours emergency number is beyond me and down right criminal.
While all of this is inconceivable in your cheapest of motels, when I approached the Morning Front desk clerk and told her what happened, never once did she raise any care or concern or the simplest of apologies for my wife?s ordeal. When I asked about a Night Manager, she stated they ?didn?t feel one was warranted? therefore an ?unmentioned? security phone was enough.
Stowe as a vacation spot was wonderful. The Grey Fox Inn was horrific. Never every again.
