  We chose this hotel because of the price and the 1 good review. Learned my lesson - we arrived and were told the hotel was overbooked and they did not have a king but a double room for our 2 night stay. Room #1: keys would not work, the air conditioning was out - 90 degrees in Chas. - they changed our room to a non-smoking room (#2) right next to a smoking room. The smell of smoke had penetrated through the walls and reeked. We were tired and needing dinner and thought we could deal with it. I slept horribly with that smoky ash tray smell waking me up continuously throughout the night. The shower did not work, the smell of smoke seemed to get worse as we got ready to leave in the morning - maybe from the next room? I called to change rooms and she explained that they were overbooked again but found us a room 10 doors away on the corner of the building - Room #3. This room was a major improvement as far as the smell but the door would not close unless you slammed your body against it. The door latch and knob were offset and the door lock would not turn. The latch above would flip over but the door was still ajar. The sink plug was stuck and we had to work on that so we could brush our teeth and the TV remote did not work. I'm not into fancy hotels but this one could not even provide the basics - locking doors, truly non-smoking rooms, keys that work, air conditioning, Tv remote, sinks and showers. The staff tried their best but the hotel building should be condemned.

  We really enjoyed our stay at the Rodeway Inn. My husband and I wanted to visit Charleston and were on a budget. The hotel had great rates, free breakfast and a friendly staff. It is located very close to Historic Charleston and only a few miles to the beaches. We will definitly stay here when we return to Charleston
