This is one of the worst places we ever stayed. The owners are updating, but it was very run down, to the point of balconies sloping! When we returned to our room at the end of the second day, it had STILL not been cleaned - trash was overflowing, so we called the front desk and were informed there ""wasn't housekeeping"" in our particular building!! What hotel doesn't do houskeeping?! Also, room was extremely tiny with NO amenities. Coffee pot, but no coffee, no fridge, no toiletries, barely room to turn around. Also, despite claims, there is nothing to do for miles around - one tiny general store a few miles up the road. Fall scenery was pretty, but next time we'll stay in Stowe or Burlington. We heard several others in the lobby complaining about various issues during our stay. The so-called spa was run down and not even available during our stay. Really dreadful.

The brochure for Orange Lake Ascutney, in most instances, does not correctly reflect the merits of the facility. During our 5 night stay, housekeeping never visited our room and a related query to the less than friendly front desk was that they did not clean the rooms every day. During this query we asked for additional towels, which they did furnish that one time. Dirty towels were allowed to accumulate in a pile on the floor of the bathroom during our entire stay. Only one of the five restaurants reflected in the brochure was open, and on our first evening the less than friendly Matre-D referred to a 25 minute wait which evolved into more than an hour, and then it took 30 minutes for the less than spectacular food to be served. The lack of restaurants was compounded when we found there were no decent restaurants within 30 miles of this remote facility. The room had no Kitchenette, and while there was a coffee pot, there was no coffee available in either the room or front desk. The walls were apparently not well insulated as we could easily hear conversations in the adjoining room. While the room rates were very reasonable, the facility itself did nothing to add to the breathtaking views surrounding the facility.
