The front staff is extremely rude. The asked for a credit card to pay sales tax immediately. It could not be paid with cash I was told. The room was booked for Queen size bed. When I arrived to check in at 5:30 PM, they did not have a queen size bed. They only had king size beds, so I was required to pay the difference between the 2 rates. When I asked regarding the receipt, they stated that Travel online will send the upcharge & tax receipts to me in my email. Still waiting for the receipts...... THe hotel is an extended stay hotel, not a regualr hotel as they advertise. Also they state that the hotel is in downtown Austin which is incorrect. Downtown Austin consists of the downtown area north of the river. This hotel is located 5 blocks south of the river.

We arrived on a beautiful day in May. The temperature in the room was 83 degrees. I was irked that they hadn't turned on the a/c knowing the room would be used, but I turned it on. It operated for about 30 seconds and then shut off for 10 minutes, on for 30 seconds off for 10 minutes. Needless to say, it did not cool the room. We called the desk and were told that the maintenance person would be in the next day. I have to say the young woman staffing the desk could not have been nicer, she just couldn't help us. I went online and found another hotel nearby. She credited my card immediately and we left. The room was clean (we unmade the bed and checked thoroughly), just shabby with no amenities to speak of. It really is an extended stay facility, and they should make that clear. On the internet, they hold themselves out as a hotel, but they are not. We were extremely disappointed.

The day I checked in, I pulled down the top comforter to find a huge pee stain that had gone through to the mattress. There was also black hair all over the sheets and pillows on both beds! DO NOT STAY HERE!

We went with a few other people for the fourth of July, and it wasn't a bad place to crash after a night downtown. It's not a four star hotel, but it has a bed, clean sheets and towels, and a bathroom. I would definitely recommend taking a cab if you're planning to go downtown. We made the mistake of walking back and while at the time wasn't a bad idea, my feet were killing me for days after taking the hike in heels. Overall, I got to see fireworks while I got ready to go downtown, had a great time and had a place close to crash. If checkout wasn't so early it would have been even better!!

We stayed here for a long weekend in Austin. The hotel was nothing fancy, but it was everything we needed. A bed, a shower and a TV. The refrigerator was nice to have, too. This place is just south of downtown. Sixth Street is walkable, though we drove since it rained almost the entire time we were there. If I am ever in Austin again, I will definitely consider Homestead Suites. We caught the South by Southwest rates, but they were still VERY reasonable for downtown Austin in a good area.
