The Walcott is an older hotel, and the lobby is very charming because of it. The rooms are very basic. The issues were - our window opened onto an alleyway, no view of the city. you could hear people in the hallway very clearly (and that means they could hear you). Besides the door to the room, there was a second door right next to the bed that also opened into the hallway. the front desk staff were not friendly It was clean, however, and they offered a basic coffee/cakes for breakfast. It is convenient to that section of the city and it is moderatly priced compared to other places. All else being equal, I would try another place, but I would have no problem going back there if need be. Hope that this helps.

Stayed here July '09 for 3 nights. The hotel lobby was gorgeous, but showed it's age. I was bummed by the late check in (3pm), but was able to get in around 1 pm. The bathroom was old and had no exhaust fan. The solution was a permanently open (about an inch) window in the shower stall. The tv worked and there was a window a/c unit. The a/c was loud and the room got hot during the night. A note on the unit warned about having it run too long, as it would freeze up. The morning muffins were great, the hotel was located in a decent area close to subway stops and restaurants. Overall, a pleasant stay.

The 105-year-old hotel did not disappoint us. It was in an area to make moving about New York City very easy. We enjoyed the "muffin breakfast" each morning of our stay. The only thing that could have been better was the smallness of the bathroom, but that was a minor detail.

stayed for 3 nights; first night room was very dreary so they did switch us the next two nights; we walked everywhere so location was okay but room did not seem very clean; bathroom is very small; mattress was very hard; coffee and muffins in lobby but it also was very messy; not sure if anyone actually cleaned large pots daily; staff at hotel was friendly; probably would spend extra money to stay at a more modern place next time

The hotel is in a great location, a block from the Empire State building. It has a locker so when you check out you can keep your stuff in the lockers and don't need to wait for someone to give you your stuff later on. This is great specially if you are in a rush. The room was barebones, just the way I like it. It has a safe, a TV, a clean bathroom and enough space for you to move around. Honestly, if it had a mini bar it would have been fantastic! However I think is a great property. If you are into architecture, you may love or hate the Lobby, but you will definitely notice it.
