Even More Expensive Than It Looks

Staying at this hotel reminded me of the innkeeper's song from Les Miserables: "Here a little cut; There a little slice; Two percent for looking in the mirror twice." Prepare to get soaked by hidden fees. Call me foolish for not finding the laundry price list hidden in the back of the closet, but when the small bag we turned in was billed at over $* we got no sympathy from the management. This hotel may be the only option in town for large business conventions, but it is no good for vacationers. You have to take a shuttle bus or taxi to get out of the dingy part of town where the hotel is located (make sure the taxi driver starts the meter or they will overcharge you also). There are no good restaurants within comfortable walking distance and the hotel restaurant is as overpriced as everything else. I was told that part of the hotel had been renovated, but you have to pay extra to stay there; our room looked like a cheap motel on the Gulf Coast. Avoid this hotel.

The rooms were exquisite with incredible views, and more importantly, large bathrooms and beds you didn't want to leave. The front desk attendants were the nicest, most helpful people i have ever met, and by the end of our trip, my boyfriend and i felt that we had made a few greek grandfathers. i would comment on the food but we weren't able to try it due to our budgets. the location was great.....the parthenon and syntagma square were both within walking distance, as was plaka and an amazing vegetarian restaurant just up the street that boasted the best dessert waffles in the area (and they were). i would do more than stay there again, i didn't want to leave. definitely a home away from home :)

The Intercontinental is a 5* hotel. The hotel is located about 45 minutes from the airport. It's 2 metro stops or 5 minute taxi ride to the Acropolis. The rooms are clean and spacious. Ppl say the neighborhood is a little shady but we didn't have any problems. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
