My family and I just returned from our stay at the Riu Ocho Rios. The resort was beautiful. The view from our room was outstanding. We arrived at 1:00 and although check-in was 3:00, our room was ready. The grounds were lovely and we loved the pool and the beach. I would suggest you bring your own pillow - the ones the hotel provided were pretty bad (lumpy). We were disappointed that we were unable to make reservations at any of the restaurants. We arrived on a Monday and when we tried to make reservations on Tuesday, we were told nothing was available until Saturday. Unfortunately, we were leaving Friday. The food at the buffet was edible but nothing special. We did notice that most everything closed down by midnight with the exception of the Sports Bar (which was a small bar downstairs) and a Disco that our 18 year old son went to and said it was "lame". The staff was friendly and helpful. We took a catamaran to Dunns River Falls which is a must while you are in Ocho Rios. Book it through the scuba building on the beach. The same tour in the lobby was * more per person! Overall, it was a great vacation and I would recommend this resort.

Our recent stay ( Nov , 2010) at the Club Hotel Riu in Ocho Rios Jamaica was not great. The main reason was the food and drink. This is an all inclusive hotel but the food at most times was not worth the money we paid to stay there. The alcoholic drinks were watered down. I had several drinks from the various bars throughout the resort and I could barely tell there was any alcohol in the drink at all. Even when I asked for a Coke, it did not taste like Coke. The orange juice at breakfast was so watered down that you could see through the glass with the so-called OJ still in it. Items in the buffet were dried out because of sitting under the heat lamps for too long. The salads were okay as well as the selection of fruit. The slices of pizza were almost not edible. The ice cream ( if you want to call it that) had no taste at all. It didn't matter which flavor you selected, they all tasted the same. We did try the jerk chicken at the chicken hut at the far end of the resort beach. That was half way decent. We did have an upgrade which meant that we could eat at the gourmet restaurants. One catch, you have to get up at 6:30 AM on the day you want to eat at one of those restaurants in order to wait in line to make your reservation. However, the meal at Sir Richard's was quite good. The room was clean and well maintained by the staff. The staff was very accommodating and helpful. Overall though I would not go back there.
