This hotel was overpriced, dishonest in its booking (they required a 24 hour cancellation or else charged full price for the room) and in its negotiations (I received the "best" rate even though the next day it advertized a lower rate) and its service below average. For the price we paid, we should have received 4 star service. The breakfast was very poor (you'd think they could afford a toaster that worked) and the hours tight. When you walk down the hallways, try not to notice the lint and dirt in the corners where the carpet meets the wall. No pool - you can use the jacuzzi for "free" (woohoo) could pay $* per person for the adjacent water park but anyone could do that. If that's what you want, stay at the Comfort Suites across the road. It's newer, the view is better (no junkyard in the back), and the staff is friendlier. Anywhere but LaQuinta Rapid City. Seriously....I've stayed at many places in Rapid City and this is one place to avoid.

If you're going to or headed through Rapid City, avoid this hotel. The rooms are average, the carpet is getting worn in the hallways, and everything is overpriced. Their business center is one old computer, and a printer that you have to buy paper for (available at the front desk). Need to fax? That will cost you. I've stayed in La Quinta hotels from Florida to Washington state and back again, and this is the only place that charged for stuff. The breakfast was okay, but the eating area is cramped and the coffee wasn't very good. If you need to wash and dry a load of laundry, be prepared to spend about $*. The hotel is conveniently located next to a gas station, but if you want to get something to eat, you'll have to drive back up the interstate. The hotel has a water park attached to it (yes, you have to pay, there is no pool otherwise). Unless you're a member of La Quinta's rewards club, I would look elsewhere for accommodations, and even then I'd forgo staying here unless you needed a hotel that allows pets.. You can find something closer to Mt Rushmore for less money.

Reserved this hotel because of the water park - no mention of the fee to get in, even for guests. The room had a strange odor, the shower trim was broken, the wall near the tub had been repaired and was moldy. I would not recommend this hotel.

Our check in process was slow due to only one person working at the front desk; she was trying to answer phones, help people purchase water park tickets and check people in and out all alone. The web site said check-in was 1:00 but the hotel sign said 3:00; she did let us check in at 1:30 because I had an email confirmation with the times on it and they had a room available. The room was clean and nice. The breakfast was very average and extremely crowded. The "pool" is an adjacent indoor pool / water park that is comparable to the recreation center in my town and it costs to swim there (in addition to the room). The view out our window was literally a junk yard of rusted trucks and trash. The cost was on the middle-high end for local hotels and was not a good value. If it were half the price and swimming was free, I would be much more likely to recommend it, but we stayed at other places on our road trip that were much nicer and much less expensive.

It is difficult to find facilities that are so nice and accommodating for folks who are traveling with pets. La Quinta allowed both us and our dog to have a great experience for an excellent price. This is now my default hotel if I'm ever in the area or passing through.
