We are a retired couple that spend six months a year traveling, so we konow of what we speak. We travel all over the US, Canada and overseas. We have stayed at 5 star hotels and economy hotels. We have never been treated as well at any hotel regardless of the price. These young folks that run this small hotel have service down pat. They know how to treat older guest. The hotel is a very , very, very nice small hotel. It is located just on the fringe of the downtow area, just a short walk to everything. If you ask they will even provide shuttle service to most anywhere. We found the rooms to be spotless. If you are in Anchorage and do not need an in hotel bar or restaurant chek them out, I'm sure you will be pleased.

My husband and I recently stayed at the hotel for a few days while we were in Anchorage. We also stayed a few days at a hotel in Fairbanks and then Seward but none of them compared to this one... it immediately felt like home!! The gentleman who checked us in was very friendly and was full of suggestions on things we should do/see and places to eat. And the beds were so VERY comfy and the room was sooo very clean which is a big plus when vacationing clear across the country!! Yes, the rooms are small but if you're looking to see Alaska, you shouldn't be in the room very much anyway!! We quickly realized after we got there that the hotel was within walking distance from most of the shopping and restaurants which was great since Anchorage's streets are lined with meters. We are (hopefully) going to be visiting Alaska again next year and we wouldn't want to stay anywhere else while in Anchorage!! Thank you Anchorage Downtown Hotel for being one of many things that made us fall in love with the state of Alaska... we can't wait until we visit again!!

I was attending a conference at the Captain Cook and looked for much more affordable option nearby. The Anchorage Downtown Hotel was much cheaper with parking so I chose it. Normally when choosing a cheaper hotel, I don't have high expectations, just the need for a bed and a bathroom. I was pleasantly surprised. It's a small hotel with 3 floors and I would guess 20-30 rooms with a quirky layout. The room was an adequate size, cable, free wifi. It was comfortable and clean and the front desk person when I checked in was very polite and helpful (they all were polite but I only really interacted with one). There was also a fridge and a microwave in the room which I find wonderfully convenient when staying in a hotel longer than an overnight (I stayed 5 nights). The only downsides were the following: 1) The description on the travel website says there is parking but not that there is a daily fee. Usually when making a reservation and it says parking, it's free; 2) There's no way to control the heat in the room and I found it blazingly hot (in winter). I felt bad but had to open the window; 3) there's no desk/table and chair to work from. But, I doubt any of those three things would stop me from staying there again.
