Staff very professional polite and friendly. Room was exquisite with views of downtown Detroit and all of its grand old architecture. The casino is spacious and airy with lots of elbow room. Warning to non-smokers: Detroit doesnt have no-smoking laws so the casino was just thick with cigarette smoke. By the time we got back to our room my hair and clothes were permeated. We stayed three days and two nights and the entire experience was just outstanding. Dont let anyone fool you Detroit is a gorgeous city just a little bit down on its heels but roaring back to life. I felt very safe at all times and people are so friendly. MGM Grand is fantastic so near everything. There are great restaurants inside the MGM complex and we thought the food was great. Finally we won quite a chunk of money at the casino one night! Highly recommend.

The room and service at the MGM Grand Detroit are excellent and everything one would expect for the price. There is one very serious problem at the MGM Grand Detroit, which is completely unavoidable if you stay there. The disgusting smell of cigarette smoke is everywhere, including the "non-smoking" hotel and rooms. What a waste of what would otherwise be a perfect hotel. Detroit has gotten it completely backwards. The "non-smoking" area of the casino is in the middle of the place, completely surrounded by chain smokers and the filthy stench of smoke saturated carpet and walls. I would never stay there again, only because of the smoke, which is everywhere. You have to walk through smoke to get to every restaurant and bar. Your cloths will wreak of smoke when you get home. I stayed one night and in the morning my lungs felt completely contaminated and I felt ill from it. Wake up Detroit, it's not 1965. That tiny little area you have closed off as non-smoking, should be the smoking area. You have it completely and utterly backwards, get a clue. The location is great and is in walking distance from Commerica and Ford Field. Too bad they had to ruin it by catering to the lowest common denominator and the damn ashtrays. My non-smoking room had cigarette burns on the granite sink. Thanks for ruining my trip with your disgusting smoke filled palace.

Check in took a little time because there was a line to the door. But when you got to the front it went fast at the desk. This was our first time in MGM in Detroit. We always stay at MGM Las Vegas and found this Hotel up there with Vegas standards. The room was very nice loved the bedding. The bathrooms were nice and the shower was huge. We enjoyed the coffee service in the morning. They had it set out for everyone in the living room at no charge. (they have the best coffee) The casino was nice and open not to much smoke smell. We would stay at this hotel again. Rates were higher here than the other casinos in the area but it was worth it when we got here.

The hotel's amenities, architecture, and decor are really beautiful but belied the bad service and treatment received. I was there on business for a major client who was throwing an event at the hotel/casino. It was odd that I was treated worse than the visitors who came in off the streets to play slots, especially given the amount of money my client was spending at the MGM . I was harassed and singled out in the most ridiculous of situations. Mostly, it felt as if I had stepped into the 1950s, where if your skin isn't of the correct hue you don't count. To be fair, not all of the service sucked. The problems mainly lied with the casino management and casino security. However, I wouldn't recommend having a corporate event here your money would be better appreciated elsewhere. FYI: If you do stay here better bring your own printer because their business center is an arm and a leg.
