Have stayed at a 4 Star resort and this is not one. More self service than all inclusive. Bring towels and wash cloths. Not enough chairs at pool or beach. No room service - could go on.....Would not stay again.

Hotel location and PRICE are the only things Grand about this place. The hotel overlooks a bay. Room furniture condition is fair bed matress is good bathroom tub and shower fixtures poor tub drains slow and sometimes no hot water and towels. TV gets two channels in english CNN and Business channel. Business channel has error message most of time. Free WIFI is only in main lobby when you can get a signal. Drink Service is fair or hit and miss more miss than a hit. Drink service around pool for maybe an hour each morning. Bars and food service are not open all the time. Food quality is poor most of the time. Meat is tuff and the chicken was dry fish was good cooked vegetable selection was normally one with plenty of rice and beans. Food at A La Carte restaurants were fair nothing special just remember their fish was always good. Nightlife or entertaiment several times a week local people come in and play music. Transportation to and from hotel is expense. The hotel has an arangement with taxi and tour trip services that will cost you about 50 more. Example Local taxi to town is * but hotel taxi service is *. so be prepared to pay extra or make arrangements with local taxi or tour operators yourself. Local service operator that we met at hotel beach area was good his name Mauricio took us on river zip line and shopping trips. He also got us a doctor and medicine on Sunday. We enjoyed Costa Rica and will do it again but not at this Resort. Several people we talked with stayed at Four Seasons and said it was great.

Had reservations for the holidays but they overbooked by 20 rooms and when we arrived the woman working at the front desk completely dismissed us saying there was nothing she could do.No rooms means no rooms even with a reservation. We had to stay at their sister property which is a real dump and the next day got out of there. To their credit the men working the next morning made calls to find us decent accomodations. I will never book a room at an Occidental reseort after that.

My husband and I went to this hotel for our Honeymoon this past October, 2010. We got checked in very quickly and immediately we were offered drinks and a ride to room. Our room was very secluded and very romantic with an amazing view! I agree, the distance to the lobby, the pool and the beach were a bit far, but who doesn't enjoy a nice walk with great surroundings? The food was good, but I do agree.. same breakfast everyday.. it get a bit boring, but over all, the staff was nice, very helpful and very respectful. If you are wanting a massage at their spa.. my opinion is don't get it there, they are good, but not great. My recommendation is to go to the beach. You will find a lady with her massage table on the beach under the shade and let me tell you, that massage was by far the BEST massage I've ever had! On the beach, with the sound of the birds and waves, it honestly doesn't get any better than that!!! I wanted to put her in my pocket and bring her home! She is not a part of the hotel, but I highly recommend her! You will also find tour guides that are a part of the hotel and will take you to a number of tours at a very reasonable price. One of the guy is very protective of his tourist and will make sure that you are well satisfied with your experience in Costa Rica. The staff member also were wonderful with the Kayaking tours to the other beach next door with the black sands and with the snorkeling they were also wonderful. There is entertainment and dancing as well. WE HAD AN AMAZING TIME!!!!

I just returned from Occidental Grand Papagayo. I LOVED IT. The food was good. The service was great. The views were great! Monkies in the trees outside our room. Rooms were good. Pool was great. Booked excursions from Johnny D on the beach and had our own personal tour guide for two days. AMAZING EXPERIEINCE and CAN NOT WAIT TO RETURN TO BOTH COSTA RICA AND THIS RESORT!
