The hotel is in a great location: close to the museum (across the street), the Fairmont Empress (legendary hotel)- great for afternoon tea, the marina and the large shopping mall. All within easy walking distance. parking at the hotel is a bit tight but for $4 a night, who cares! Definitely will use this hotel again.

We only stayed one night, but enjoyed the hotel very much. The front desk staff were very helpful and friendly. The lobby was bright and spacious and very welcoming. A nice seating area around a fireplace made me want to go over and relax with a good book. Our room was on the first floor, so the view was minimal but we were able to see the Empress Hotel and a little water, and had a nice little balcony, which in warmer weather would have been really nice. The room was roomy as was the bath. An archway in the room was a nice detail. The bed was very comfortable, firm but not hard. We used the pool and jacuzzi in the afternoon, and we were the only swimmers, so that it was quite peaceful. There was a nice workout room, but we did not use that. Everything was within walking distance, a large choice of restaurants and pubs to listen to music at night. Both days for lunch we went to a restaurant across from the water called The Local Kitchen (some just called it The Local) and had the very best clam chowder. The food was fresh, local, and deliciously prepared. If you get a chance, I would recommend it highly. The second day we were able to sit outside in the sunshine and enjoy the water view across the street. All in all we had a wonderful time, and thank the staff at the Queen Victoria for a lovely stay.

Room size very good. Plenty of space. 2 queen beds that were ok on the softer side. Cleanliness very good. Ran into housekeeping very helpful and nice. Bathroom on the smaller side but very doable. 2 of us and only 2 towels. I preferred more but that is because of my American excess way of thinking. We were very close to the small elevator but never heard it. The second night there was a complaint against US because of noise. We we were only talking. No music or TV. Sorry. Guess the walls are thin. If your a light sleeper then you might want to bring ear plugs. We never heard anybody and my friend is a very light sleeper. Kitchenette is behind locked closet doors. Front desk very friendly. When cheeking in asked to be on side to see the back of Fairmont Empress. They honored request. I left my contact lens in hotel room. They mailed them back to me. THANKYOU. I observed night front desk go above and beyond helping someone use printer for a fishing license. They offer 2 computers for internet so you don't have to drag laptop around. But it is in a closet tighter than tight. Stayed 2nd week in Aug. So on the warmer side. I get hot easily. This is an old hotel no A/C. Concerned about that. (Fairmont Empress across the street doesn't have it either.) They did have a oscillating table fan which we used. We were on the 4th floor. No windows to open. Just a large sliding glass door with no screen. It worked just fine. Kept the curtian sheer closed. Felt petnly safe. Cool enough to sleep.

This hotel was a great choice. Just a block southeast of the harbor. Very nice facility with friendly staff. The rooms were very nice and clean. The on-site resturant was excellent and parking was great. They have a very nice indoor pool, hot tub (102 degrees) and sauna. Other than Butchart Gardens, we could walk to all of the major attractions and shopping areas.

Newly updated room. Beautiful view of back of Empress Hotel and harbor. Great price. So far so good. No AC and it was hot; so we had to sleep with windows no screens wide open. Downtown Victoria: Sirens all night and screaming drunks on the streets below. Not much sleeping happened. Maid service: First morning: no towels, no trash can or ice bucket liners. 2nd morning: took away old soap and did not give us any new supplies of any kind. I stopped at the desk and asked for soap, didn't have any and said they'd sent some up. Three polite phone calls and more than an hour later we finally got soap. If you are staying in cooler months, you might give it a try. I saw the maid wandering our hall on her cell phone. We may have just got one bad maid, but they didn't try very hard to make it right.
