My aunt and I stayed at this hotel for 4 days and had a wonderful time. The room was nice but we had to ask three times to get extra towels and washcloths. I also noticed that the room had not been thoroughly cleaned because the previous guests boarding passes were still in the drawer. Other than that, the staff were all wonderful--from the servers and bartenders to the spa staff. If you want a phenomenal massage, ask for Dwight. He was professional and has magic hands! We mostly dined in the main buffet room and had the pleasure of having Chad as our server. He provided excellent service each and every night with a smile. So, if you want to eat there, ask for him. After dinner, I highly suggest going to the shows. The entertainment was outstanding! Keep in mind that although it is all-inclusive, please tip the servers and bartenders. They truly provide excellence service and deserve at least a small tip.

I would not stay again at the RIU again

I stayed at the RIU for 3 days and 2 of the days we were not able to get any bath towels or wash cloths because the hotel was filled to capacity and ran out of supplies. In addition to not being able to get new bath supplies, on the second night we were moved to a room that had dirty sheets from the last guest. We asked for new sheets but were told that the resort did not have any clean sheets at the moment. So, this confirmed the fact that housekeeping simply made up a bed with dirty sheets and labeled the room as clean. Although the front desk attendants were friendly, they were overwhelmend with complaints and other issues and couldn't offer much assistance. I do not recommend this hotel.

We frequent the RIU's often and this was the WORST stay ever! Normally the RIU creates a vacation friendly environment that is sanitary, nice, and the staff is hospitable; this was not the case at this supposedly "premiere property." When we walked in our room we were greeted by the most unpleasant odor that smacked us right in the face, not to mention after taking a few steps we spotted a gigantic bug on the wall. When we contacted the front desk they sent the maid to kill the bug but made no other accomodations, UGHHHHHHH! We finally decided to get some rest after a long flight and day, to be bitten by bed bugs all night, UGHHHHHHHH! Another complaint was filed and nothing hospitable was done by the hotel manager, no accomodations whatsoever! At the main buffet we were greeted by bugs on our table at two different meal sittings; one on the table cloth and the other inside of our drink. This vacation at the RIU was very dissapointing and has encouraged my family to stay at other hotel chains on vacation. The RIU was not willing to make any necessary accomodations for my party for the nastiness and unsanitary conditions of their property and the ruining of our vacation and because of this, we encourage everone to stay SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!!!!!

My husband & I went for a friend's wedding Nov 2010. We did not make the reservations ourself, but we would go back in a second. As a matter of fact we are starting to plan a return visit for next year. We would also like to visit the new Riu in Costa Rica. The staff was very attentive and friendly, starting from the minute we arrived. We were created with smiles and a drink. We where in our room within 20 minutes of arrival. The food was good. Not as spicy as we expected. Ate at the Krystal and the Steak House, both were excellent. The Jerk Shack on the beach is a must for lunch. The beach was amazing and the pool was clean. The room was perfect for the 2 of us. Double sink and fresh towels daily were key. It was a little musty when we first got there but a few sprays of Fabreeze did the trick.Maid service and room service were prompt and courtesy. Bartenders where quick and funny, especially Andrew at the swim up bar. We will miss the frozen drinks and Jamaican Appleton Special rum. The only thing we didn't like about the stay is that wasn't long enough. November is a great time to go. The weather was hot with a breeze and no rain the entire time we were there. Rick's Cafe is a must. Book it through the resort, the coordinated it perfectly. No problem mon!
