My son and I traveled to NYC for the lighting of the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Plaza. We had an opportunity to stay at this wonderful hotel. Unbelieveable. Everyone was very kind and attentive to our needs. This was my son's first visit to NYC and he absolutely loved it. I will definitely stay here again...as a matter of fact, we plan to make this a yearly visit for the sole purpose of the lighting of the Christmas Tree. I highly recommend to those who are accustomed to grandeur to consider this hotel.

I thought the Roosevelt was a great choice for a night in NYC for the price. Clean, up to date and convenient. Overall my experience was very good, except for a hotel clerk who was very abrupt and seemed put-upon when we checked in. Other than that, it was a comfortable stay.

The rooms in The Roosevelt are small, but typical of NYC. However, whoever decided on the layout never stayed there for even one night. In my room, I had to get into the shower by squeezing in between the sink and shower door. The TV was positioned dead-ahead and could not be pivoted, which would have been fine had the bed been directly in front of it. And finally, you had to climb over the bed to get to the desk. Obviously, "ergonomics" is not a word the designer understands. When I finally got to sleep, I was awakened by the smoke detector in my room going off at 1 a.m. I tried resetting it, which seemed to work. Went back to sleep. Woke up again at 1:30 to it going off. Removed the battery. Half-hour later, same thing. Called the front desk and they said someone would come up. 45 minutes later someone came and said that the entire hotel had had faulty detectors installed and that there were about 100 other guests with the same problem. While the fix took all of 5 minutes, this is not something I want to endure on a business trip. The hotel was apologetic but did not offer any refund, consolation or discount. When pressed, they told me they were sorry, but there was nothing they could do. All-in-all, skip the pompous Old-Money charm and stay at the Sofitel. Much nicer and more modern and the staff is courteous, responsive and understands business travelers.

Very convenient location from Grand Central! (take the 45th street passage near track 38)
The rooms are very clean , including the bathrooms.
The bed is very comfortable and the room size wasn't as small as I expected. There was plenty of room for a 2 night stay, which included 2 people with lots of clothes! lol
The bar area has a very cozy seating area with a fireplace.
We did have to wait a good hour for a coffee maker and it took a few phone calls to finally get it, but that was okay. We ended up w/2 and are still laughing about it.
Maybe consider going to Starbucks instead of asking for a coffee maker.
The concierge was very helpful w/recommending some great restaurants within walking distance.
The hotel is also close to Times Square ( I consider it walking distance)
I really enjoyed my stay and I'm looking forward to going back soon!
