I stayed at the San Diego Marriott Gaslamp in early January 2011. It was one of the most comfortable, perfectly located hotels I've ever stayed in. I travel a lot and mostly stay in cities. Location is everything when you're spending a short time in a city. This hotel was right in downtown San Diego without being exactly in the center of it which is perfect. It was also luxurious and affordable. Their Altitude Lounge is on the 22nd floor with a beautiful view. The restaurant food was very good. The service all over the hotel was excellent, everyone was very helpful and very friendly. I will definitely stay here again when I come to visit.

Loved this hotel during the week. The staff was very attentive - everyone the valet, bellmen, concierge, front desk staff, waitstaff, room service, and especially the housekeeping staff were all wonderful during the week. But these folks left on Friday and the weekend staff was awful. On Saturday we left our room around 10:00 am and returned after 5:00 pm. It looked as though our room had been tossed. The nightstands and bed had been pulled away from the wall, the lamps and clock had been moved, and the bedding thrown on the floor. Our things appeared untouched and the room had not been cleaned. Front desk was not helpful, thye asked if we wanted the room cleaned. What? Cleaned? How about put back together. No one ever came. My husband and I replaced the furniture, by 7:00 two housekeepers came to clean and restock the bathroom. They left us 2 bath towels, a nearly empty toilet paper core without a new roll, and empty bottles of shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner on the edge of the tub without replacing them. Fed up, I found the housekeeping cart down the hall and just took the items we needed while the housekeepers were in another room. the difference between the lovely woman that took care of our room during the week and the weekend staff was amazing. Additionally we had difficulties getting our car from the valet on the weekend, and the waitstaff at the hotel restraunt seemed more interested in talking amongst themselves than waiting tables. Very mixed review for a very mixed experience.
