This is a nice hotel to spend some time in whether interested in river activities or wineries, shopping or just passing through. It's centralized for the Tri Cities, has easy on and off access to the freeway and sits right on the river with a wonderful esplanade that runs for miles along the river front. The rooms are clean and spacious, the hotel quiet, there is plenty of parking, the location is asthetically pleasing with a nice staff as well as affordable prices. There is a resaturant on site and each nights stay comes with a chit for breakfast in the morning that is far more than the typical continental breakfast of most hotels. The grounds are kept very clean and the pool is spacious and the exercise room, although small, is open 24 hours. It also hosts the Tri Cities marathon so if you are a runner and like being close to the start you have it made in the shade!

The mini-suite was not overly large but large enough. Nice firm bed. Clean room. Lots of hot water. The best thing was the free breakfast. We are not talking about a warmed over bun and luke warm coffee in the corner of the lobby. No, we are talking about a full scale, sit-down restaurant with table service. Lots of booths and tables and chairs. The breakfast bar was self serve and there were HOT eggs, saugages, potaotes, bisquits and gravy, as well as fresh fruit and a variety of cold cereals. I highly recommend it!

Our check-in experience at the desk went without a hitch, and staff members were pleasant. Our double room was acceptably clean and convenient. The rooms and common areas seem to be showing their age. We found the grounds facing the river very attractive, and the riverfront path was a handy way for us to walk to restaurants for dinner both nights we were there. The complimentary breakfast, served in the on-site restaurant, was above average, with eggs, sausage, potatoes, and biscuits and gravy available buffet-style. Nothing truly objectionable to report, but nothing outstanding, either.

Don't stay at the Shilo in Richland, WA
06/05/2007Service is poor; rooms are sub-standard (smell of smoke, have insects, conveniences don't work).
