We stayed at the Smoketree Lodge on January 2, 2010. It was somewhat of a last minute trip and all they had was a studio room for $*. We arrived at 4pm which is scheduled check in time and they told us our room was not ready. It took another hour before the room was cleaned. I don't have any idea why it would take so long since check out is at 11 and you must remove all trash yourself, clean all dishes used and straighten up or face a $* excessivly dirty charge. The room was small, and rustic, but was what I was expecting from a studio. What I wasn't expecting was the horrible draft coming from the A/C wall unit. It was not insulated at all and even with the heat running full blast we had to wear several layers to bed. The best part is their indoor pool and trust me it wasn't all that impressive. This place was a real dissapointment which was unfortunate because everything else about our trip was wonderful. The area is beautiful and definately worth visiting. I expect to visit the area again in the future, but wouldn't stay here again if they offered me a free room. Do yourself a favor and stay some place else!!!!

I read all the "bad" reviews but kept our reservation anyway. We were wonderfully surprised. The place, although was very quaint, it was a fantastic value for the money. Rooms were decorated nicely, nothing fancy, but we were not looking for fancy. The pool and jacuzzi were very clean with security survalence. Late at night the lodge is locked up so you have to use your room key to enter which we thought was a wonderful safety feature. The great room/game room was a neat place for the entire family with a giant TV, pool table, video games and free coffee....even jigsaw puzzles on the tables. Great inviting fireplace. The management made sure the noise level was kept to a minimum so we heard very little noise after 10:00. It was just the 2 of us but if I had a family with children this would be the place! Will stay there again next trip to that area. The only down side to the lodge were the steps to the various levels so anyone with a handicap might want to request a room on the main level. Other than that...GREAT PLACE.
