We liked it. Room had full Kitchen so if you were staying for a few days, you can save money by buying and cooking in your room. The room was average size and had a nice balcony over pool, facing the gulf. Heated pool, and nice pool area. Location is a little further away from main attractions. The room had a small TV, but with the view we didn't spend too much time in front of the TV. We stayed the weekend (Fri-Sun) and they never came and made the beds or brought clean towels, that's really the only complaint I have. We did call and they told us come down and get as many towels as we needed, but by the end of the weekend we had several wet towels piled in the bathroom. I would stay there again, its a good value for money.

I am not a picky person, but I was so upset with our stay that I felt compelled to let everyone else know how awful this place is. It is filthy. The TV was a little 19 inch, the remote did not work, the power button the TV was broken. Rust on everything. This place is disgusting. Even for the money, it is NOT worth the price.

Thought the deal was too good to be true well it looks like it was. After they lost my reservation and this site refused to help we ended up here having to pay double the posted rate just to keep our plans. The best part? All the bed bug bites and bugs in our clothes. NEVER AGAIN

We stayed at Sugar Sands the week of August 15th to 21st and for the most part, our experience was good. The hotel is on the far end of the beach so it's not near Pier Park or any of the cluster so traffic is dense and it's not so crowded. Just what we were looking for! The beds are comfortable even if the double queen room is rather small. The views are amazing!! The balconies are well kept and rails are very sturdy. The staff is very diligent about offering to clean your room every morning. WARNING: If you are not in your room when they arrive, they WILL go in on their own!! There are 3 different areas on the deck for you to rinse and shower off after being on the beach or in the ocean. That's nice! BUT, our bathroom had mildew on the walls and ceiling around the shower and the top ledge of the shower wall is beyond filthy with black gunk! There was a NASTY black hairball in the bathtub drain with a bobbie pin. The toilet you have to sometimes flush twice to get it to work properly. The air conditioning works fine if your on the side where it's located. Otherwise, the bed by the door is rather hot. The TV is very small! If you want or need wifi, you can pretty much count on having to go to the florida room to use it. The signal is too weak in the room which is a pain if, like us, you need to look up numbers or reviews for restaurants or attractions in the area. The spa was colder than the pool for the first 3 days of our stay and was dirty. Some of the staff is rude.

The elevator feels rather unsafe. The door does not close all the way and makes a clanking sound with each floor you pass. Let alone it smells of urine and is extremely slow! Better off taking the stairs if possible. Our pull out sofa appeared to have urine stains on the mattress and had trash folded up inside it. Needless to say, it did not get used as planned. The floors were pretty clean but as others have mentioned, we did find one roach in our room. No ice maker in the freezer nor was one provided on site made for extra trips to the store. Oh and forget about asking housekeeping any questions. We did not find one that spoke a single word of English other than "Clean your room?" or "Towels?" Shame there's so many bad points because the hotel does have good potential if they would clean the rooms thoroughly and stay on watching the pool and spa for the guests that use them. And they truly need to get on fixing that elevator! For the money on the beach with a gulf view, it was tolerable.
