02/19/2011The location was great but the hotel was rundown looking, rotten banisters, worn carpets. it probably was a great hotel in the past but it needs a major refurbishing.

An updated and well kept older property. No complaints from us. From what we could tell from walking on the beach, this property is the closet to the Gulf. We riginally were going to stay at a property on Siesta Key, which when we visited one day.....was packed. We found a discovered a "jewel" in the Sarasota area. We will visit again!!

Warm and helpful staff that were always available to help make our stay delightful. The hotel is a little dated but wonderfully designed to make a few day get away very enjoyable. We paid a little more to be pool side and are happy we did. There are two pools. The larger was generous in size and the water was perfect. Poolside was well supplied with clean and comfortable lounges and all the towels you desire folded and ready. Then the real beauty of it all a huge and clean and will raked beach that was long and at least 50-60 yards deep. The restaurants served excellent food and the service was more than adequate. All in all my wife and I loved the time we spent at The Sand Castle. ABC

The room was very unclean. By that we mean the air vents were full of moldy, dirty dust. The toilet was not even connected to the floor, kept moving around when in use. No water pressure either in shower. Needs serious updating. But on a positive note, the concept and access from our room to the beach was great. Nice pool area, beautiful beach. Great stay otherwise.

This was close to my fishing destination and convenient to my daughter's off campus apartment near New College. Very close to Armand Circle which is a pleasant but too upscale for my taste. The pool was clear and refreshing even in the brutally hot summer weather. It is a saltwater pool. Poolside bar was okay. The room was good size and the bed/linens comfortable and clean. My room was tucked out of the way, but I did not mind. It had a large walk in shower. Nice, but I'm not sure if all of them are the same. The bathroom ceiling had black mold near the return duct. There is no exciting nitelife at the beach as far as I can tell during the summer. Downtown is more lively. It is a twenty minute car ride.
