My husband and I were looking for a budget option at a great location for a stay in NYC during December, the most highly-priced month of the year to visit. The Jane suited our needs from a pricing perspective. The rooms were very clean, no sign of bedbugs, despite the union picketing going on outside with men in white tyvek suits warning us of bedbugs. 50 square feet is no joke. The space was tight. In a bunk bed room for two, with two small suitcases, it wasn't feasible for us both to stand at the same time. The mattresses were awful. Super thin and all i could feel was the springs inside. Despite having one shower for the whole floor, we never had an issue, likely because we were up before 9 each day. The staff was great, the decor was pretty and the location was great. My one complaint is that it's not the least bit relaxing to stay there. If the mattress, linens and towels and been just a smidge nicer, it would have improved our experience tremendously. We probably won't stay at this hotel again, because we'd prefer a space that makes us feel comfortable when we need to rest, but the price was right and it was an interesting experience!

A stay at the ABC feels like walking into an old movie. The bellhops wear the old-style uniforms, and actually escort you to your room. And someone is always at the desk, 24/7. The bar looks like a movie set, too. It's almost worth staying here just to see this place. The rooms are very small, but comfortable, and well-heated. You have use the shared bathroom down the hall--and may have to wait a few minutes to shower or use the toilet. Each one has two sinks, and there may be a wait for those, too. But for the price, it's worth it. Other than staying at a hostel, you won't find cheaper rooms in lower Manhattan. And the location is great.

I found The Jane to be a completely charming "old school" hotel with excellent service, clean rooms, and efficient green energy practices.. I stayed in a single bunk "seamen" type room, quite small but perfect for one person. The flat screen tv, air conditioner, and towels all worked to perfection. The manned "old school" elevator was a a tiny slow, but being on the fourth floor was a quick skip and a bounce to the street. It is quite near the water and the battery park running track. I had a water view from my room. It is a 5 minute walk to shopping, 10 minutes to subway, and only 15 minutes to Washington Square park. I recommend for the budget traveler on the go, with little care for a large palatial hotel room. Enjoy! Quiet too. The shared bathroom was very doable, no discernable issues, all locked doors for showers and bathrooms.

I was in town for two long, tough workdays in midtown and a quick hotel "crash" in between. The Jane was perfect. A cheap, but comfortable and clean room; a communal bath (with a view of the Statue of Liberty from the bath window); AC; HDTV; period details and character out the wazoo. My commute was a 20-minute walk through "The Highline," a greenspace park above the Westside Highway. And history. I recommend the Jane with gusto.
