I am a native New Yorker who lives out of state. When I visit I usally stay with family, but on this trip I was celebrating my birthday and wanted to stay in town. I was surprised to find out how expensive Manhattan hotels have become. However, I found The Pod, which is worth every penny. It is resonably priced by NY standards. It is new and clean. The rooms are small but efficiently laid out. The staff is very friendly and accomodating. You can't beat its central location. You won't be dissappointed. Stay here.

Newly renovated & clean. Helpful staff. Everything's nearby, including Rockefeller Center (Today Show), Ed Sullivan Theater (Letterman), Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, Times Square, Central Park, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Museum of Modern Art, and the Broadway theaters. 15 blocks away, but still walkable, are the Empire State Building, Macy's, Herald Square, and Madison Square Garden. Plenty of restaurants nearby and a gourmet grocery store around the corner (you haven't lived 'til you've paid $7/lb for conventional bing cherries!). Beware, cheapest rooms have shared bath.
