I stayed here in July 2010. It was gross for the following reasons: they change beach towels (even if damp or with sand) only 2x a week. The food was horrible (the watermelon at buffet tasted like onions, like they used the same knife or tray for onions and watermelon). The meats at buffet were like shards of metal going down. The supposed gym is equipped with machines from the early 1980's (no cardio machines). There are 2 pools. 1 of the pools is for guest over 16 yrs old. They offer great deals to locals so the pool "quiet" was PACKED with yelling kids and extended families. I saw 2 diff kids (10 yr olds) swimming in their underwear. No spare outlets in the rooms (so prepare to unplug the TV so that you can charge yr cell, ipod, laptop, kindle, whatever). the beach was disappointing. the water wasnt clear. it was like any beach on the east coast of USA. There is a wind surfing school at property. The sand on the beach blows sooo hard-it was empty for the 10 days i was there. I personally lasted 10 minutes on the beach. Also the hotel lets "vendors" hawk Cd's, shell necklaces, etc on the beach. The vendors pay a fee to get on property and they just harass you. every nite the bathroom flooded bc of shower door. (this happened in the 2 diff rms i stayed at & several guest complained about flooding in their rooms. We wondered if the ceilings had mold. the Tvs in the rooms were old and the reception not good. No public phones to use a telephone calling card. this is a great 1 star hotel (the a/c in the rm worked) dont stay here.

This place may be the best or even only all-inclusive in the Cabarete area, but unless you have children go somewhere else. I would recommend this for parents only because of the convenience of not having to leave with the resort providing daycare/activities. However, I have been to many caribbean countries and this is not the place to go if you want to stay at an all inclusive. The food here was not good, even by AI standards. They do not provide any information when you arrive or in your room. You have to search to figure out activities and how to make dinner reservations. The restaurants don't always open on time. There is no WiFi , wireless internet, no matter what anyone says. The cable is mostly spanish channels WHEN it works. They provide one bottle of water and two of soda in your room fridge. If you want more chase down a maid. They do not offer room service of any kind. I was told they had no wait staff. It is amazing that you can't find someone to hire for room service in a country where people will do anything for money. They have one really nice pool, but it gets a little crowded during the day. Some staff are very friendly and others are quite rude. In addition to not providing room service you are not allowed to bring anything back to your room. The Italian restaurant and the snack bar are the same place depending on the time of day. They basically serve alot of pizza. They offer tiny glasses which you fill from 2 liter soda bottles, beer tap, or juice machine. The drains don't drain and the A/C leaks all over the floor. See my tips for more advice.

Our stay was pretty nice. The hotel patrons were very friendly even though many did understand a lot of English. We really enjoyed the shows they had every night. The food, well, not great in the buffet resturant, but we understand that we were in another country and they were preparing food for 200-300 people every meal. They had dinner where you would have to sign up for, whch had a theme each night, i.e.Mexican or Italian which were first class and the food were exellent. Many guest did not realize you had to sign up for it because they only seated so many tables. The grounds of the Hotel were beautiful and well maintained and of course the weather were beautiful.

We have been to the Dominican Republic many times before but previously we always stayed in Punta Cana. The food at the Wyndham Tangerine was good especially the Italian specialty restaurant. We found the hotel staff responsive. We had problems with the lack of hot water in the room and they fixed it immediately and we had a clogged drain on the second day that they pormptly repaired. We were concerned when we found out the property only had one bar but we did not have to wait for beverages. The beach was nice but the waves were quite rough on some days. We prefer the calm turquoise waters that we experienced in Punta Cana. Good overall experience.

OVERALL: This is not a luxury resort - it is comfortable place to stay near Cabarete. The resort is focused on kitesurfing. You probably won't want to spend too much time in your room. The hotel is right on the beach and very close to 2 kite surfing schools. When I was there, the sea was pretty rough - not ideal for children looking to paddle. (The waves aren't of the surfing variety either, they break too close to the shore). You need to get to Playa Encuentro for surfing. Go at 7am as in the afternoon the wind changes to onshore and blows out the waves. FOOD: The italian is good, the mexican so-so. The buffet for lunch and dinner were surprisingly good as is the pizza in the snack area. Burgers are best if you go at off-peak snack time (when they make them individually for you)! ROOM: My room looked out over the sea, but the view was partially blocked by palm tree leaves. When I turned the ac off before the leaving the room (to save energy) the room did smell a bit. Not foul, but a definite plumbing issue. CLIENTELE: Mostly German, a few English and American. Mostly families and groups of kiteboarders. Not a party haven. SERVICE: I never figured out the rules for getting pool towels. There were two in the room when I arrived and the booklet said they were available poolside. (Not that I saw.) To get replacement towels you need to leave your towel in the shower and room service will replace. Of course if you're at the pool at the time they're doing room service...... Maybe it was me.... BAR SERVICE: A little slow given that they're not dealing with cash / accounts / credit cards.
