I am an admitted hotel snob who enjoys chic, boutique properties that attracts a younger but more affluent crowd and will say that this was my first experience at a W Hotel. My stay lived up to the hype. A few months ago, I took a girls weekend to NYC as part of a business trip, and we found a great deal at the W Union Square. Our room was small - typical for a NYC hotel - but it was very clean and well-decorated, two must haves in my book. The bed was comfy; the bathroom had a standing shower, which I prefer; and there were adequate plugs and a full length mirror. Score! We had happy hour drinks and some munchies at the bar, and, while it was totally overpriced as expected from a hotel lounge, everything was tasty. (They do, however, need to invest in some shades over those massive windows. We couldn't escape the sun!) Overall, my stay was good, as expected from the W brand, and I would be happy to stay again if I were to get a great deal. We paid $** per night, which was definitely worth it, but I would not pay upwards of $*** per night.

The W at Union Square has gone steeply downhill. This used to be our favorite hotel in the country. Now we will never go back. Service is unpredictable and lax. The front desk staff are incompetent to the point of being harmful. The management simply does not care. We were overcharged due to a desk clerk's mistake and were made to feel like we were criminals as the front desk manager argued with me until I cried in frustration. That is very uncool. The hotel is clean (no bed bugs) and safe. You can get better quality service for a much lower price at a Holiday Inn.

Loved this hotel. Clean and tidy, chic without being stuffy. Surprised by the convenience/location of this hotel to the subway. Been to NYC many times but was not too familiar with Union Square - GREAT location! Staff was very accomodating and friendly, although we didn't have any outrageous special requests. We were part of a large group and so our group rate made this an EXCEPTIONAL bargain! But do some searching - some of these rooms go on sale cheap. Don't expect a good view - we didn't have one, but with the location, it wasn't important... we were out and about. Try the (quirky) Green Cafe next door for a quick, yummy breakfast and the Wildwood BBQ down the street for a great fun casual dinner. (surprisingly good bbq for NYC) Would stay again soon! In a heartbeat!

I was really disappointed by the service at this W hotel. I reserved a non-smoking room, but instead they put me into smoking room. I have to come down to lobby to change to a non-smoking room. The shower in the non-smoking room was unclean~mold inside of shower floor. There is no other non-smoking room for us to switch when we called the front desk. Since we booked 6 nights there, we requested to clean the mold while we are gone in the daytime. Nothing has been done when we returned to the hotel that night, still mold inside of the shower. I called front desk, concierge, & housekeeping to solve this issue, but all they did was apologized. No one actually come up to the room to check it out or clean it. Terrible service. We end up buying bleach in the nearby Walgreen to clean up the shower floor ourselves. The entire experience is terrible at this W hotel. The only good thing about the hotel is the location, it 's pretty convenience.

Thw W at Union Sq NYC was a GREAT destination hotel. Unfortunately, the services and furnishings are getting a tad shabby for the high end price. This was the second time I had to change rooms because of no A/C. Thats a bad sign for the $$$$.
