The count of the cards are the same a Blackjack: Cards from 2-9 or valued as the number the represent. (5 counts as 5, 7 counts as 7, etc.) 10, Jack, Queen and Kings are valued as 10 and an Ace is either a 1 or a 10, whichever you choose.

The differences between blackjack and blackjack switch are as follows:

  1. Blackjack plays 1:1
  2. Dealer pushes on 22 to all players but loses to a Blackjack
  3. Player must play two hands with a equal bet on each
  4. All player cards are dealt face up
  5. Before any other action, a player can switch the second cards of both hands

There are minor rule differences from casino to casino as far as deck used and the surrender option.

At some casinos there is a side bet, called Super Match, that can be made that pays a payout based on if your 4 cards make a pair, two pair, three of a kind and 4 of a kind. The payouts vary from casino to casino but basically pay:

  1. Pair: 1-1
  2. 3 of a kind: 5-1
  3. 2 pairs: 8-1
  4. 4 of a kind: 40-1

A round of Blackjack Switch starts when you place two equal size bets on the table. You can also place a wager, usually as low as a dollar, on the Super Match square. The dealer will then deal with you two hands, face up.

It is important to remember that unlike Blackjack, most casinos do not want you to handle the cards during play. So you must wait for your turn to do a switch. Usually, the dealer will handle all the Super Match bets before continuing on. Once it is your turn, you must say switch before you hit on either hand. The dealer will switch the cards for you. Switching to a blackjack still counts and pays 1-1.

At this time you play as if it was a regular Blackjack game. Hit, stand, split or double down. Casinos will have specific rules on re-splitting and doubling down.

Blackjack switch is catching on rapidly across the country in a variety of casinos and is a fun alternative to traditional blackjack. Although the strategy is basically the same, the greater flexibility in this version of blackjack can make for an exciting time at the blackjack table. You can always test it out with your friends to, which will help you prepare for playing blackjack switch at the casino.
