I took a cursory count of the BHYC members listed in the Race Guide who participated as volunteers in the work needed to make the first Lobster Run Ocean Race the success that it was: I counted at least 50. Members were out at Burnt Island Light, 24/7, working 3 or 4 hour shifts recording the finish times of the competing boats.
