Bill Gould, commander of East Peoria VFW Post 2078, goes over paperwork Tuesday regarding this week's sale of the group's building at 123 Meadows Ave. Despite dwindling membership locally and the closure of posts nationally, Gould vows that his post will not only survive but buy or build a new site.

The first of two public hearings about two business districts potentially headed for East Peoria's new downtown got little fanfare. Only two people spoke, with one person who said he was fundamentally opposed to imposing any kind of additional tax, and the other thrilled to see development, "something other than dirt."

Good outside shooting by the Illinois Valley Central boys basketball team gave the Grey Ghosts a strong inside presence against host East Peoria on Saturday night. The Grey Ghosts hit five of their seven first-half 3-pointers in the first period to build an early double-digit lead on the way to a 56-44 nonconference win over the Raiders.

East Peoria avoided a nightmare finish to an already hard-luck boys basketball season Saturday night, but did not avoid a 68-58 Mid-Illini Conference loss to Limestone. Too many metal recycling businesses throughout the state don’t ask questions about the more valuable materials they accept — making stealing those materials, quite often copper, a worthwhile risk. State Rep. Mike Unes wants to change that.
