It's a project that's been at least 40 years in the making

MICHIGAN CITY — Even though a number of Marquette Catholic High School students were out of school Friday suffering from the flu, parents and students still participated in the school’s second blood drive of the year.

Stuck in another early rut, No. 18 Marquette used traps, turnovers and a high-octane transition game to turn up the heat on Cincinnati. That was enough to melt the Bearcats. Marquette forced Cincinnati into turnovers on four of five possessions during a 10-0 run to take the lead in the first half, then cruised to a 95-78 victory on Saturday.

After watching his team throw away an early lead in a flurry of turnovers and transition baskets, Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin didn't hold much back. Cronin said his players should have known that No. 18 Marquette was going to turn up the heat -- and should have been ready for it. Instead, the Bearcats gave up the lead in the first half and wound up losing 95-78 on Saturday.

Darius Johnson-Odom and Jae Crowder scored 23 points each, helping No. 18 Marquette beat Cincinnati 95-78 on Saturday.
