A local Jamaican hotelier has expressed interest in a casino license. However tourism sources say that the only hotels on the island have between 700 and 750 rooms which is below the minimum one thousand required in conjunction with a 1.5billion dollar investment. The hotelier is said to have the investment capital needed but is hoping they will make a special consideration as he is a local, established hotel and not a new venture or outside interest.

Jamaica is hoping to limit casino licenses to make them part of the entertainment offered but not necessarily limit Jamaica to being a casino destination. Two other businesses have announced plans for large hotels or expansions with large investments on the contingency they will be granted a casino license but they are on a much larger scale than the minimum requirement. Either way they see it as a benefit to all, even those hotels without casino licenses as the commerce will surely flow between all the establishments in the area of those with casino licenses.
