Beat the Bookies

Alan Hughes of Casino Tours Abroad

In the 80's and early 90's. Alan ran a bookmaking business which specialised in taking football bets from Denmark. Then one day in the early 90's Fedex turned up on his doorstep to deliver a package from the Desert Inn, Las Vegas; the world-famous casino asked if Alan would like to become a junket agent.

Conveniently for Alan, the package arrived just as Danish gaming laws were being reviewed and so his business took an unexpected change of direction and he began focusing on casino junkets and Las Vegas Travel.

Now Alan's business is moving in another direction, albeit on familiar territory. Alan has recently launched Calcodds.com which calculates live place market prices for Betfair users.

Calcodds is an automated system which calculates the true mathematical odds for any named horse to place. Of course, the system's underlying assumption is that Betfair's win odds are correct in the first place. Using live Betfair API feeds, Calcodds calculates odds on a second-by-second basis. Should any discrepancies arise, they are clearly shown; the benefit of Calcodds is that the system automatically indicates what the percentage error, or discrepancy, is on each horse in every race.

Alan's plan is to attract between 20-30,000 Betfair punters using Calcodds; he would also like to identify the casino players amongst them and get them onto the junkets, a process which he believes should be easier than going straight out and looking for casino players. There is either method to Alan's madness or madness to Alan's method! Time will tell if this works.
