Meditech has scrapped its plan to build a complex that it said would create about 800 jobs in town. Mayor Will Flanagan said Monday that the company ended its lengthy battle to relax archeological requirements imposed by the Massachusetts Historical Commission on the site where Meditech planned to build.

Students in grade 4 will likely get more lessons on the art of storytelling. At a recent School Committee meeting, school district administrator Jessica Huzeinga said after analyzing last year’s MCAS data, it appeared students in that grade in both Freetown and Lakeville struggled with the long composition portion.

The town recently settled on a contract with former East Providence, R.I., city manager Richard Brown, who began working in Freetown on Monday. Brown was interviewed by the Board of Selectmen in early December; he was chosen as one of three finalists who was interviewed in open session after the town initiated a search last October.
