A bill hiking betting limits from $100 to $1,000 in Deadwood has passed the full Senate.

The Deadwood Mountain Grand will open its 98-room hotel in early April, hotel managers said Monday. The hotel, perched on a hilltop overlooking the historic gold rush town, is expected to bring 50 jobs to the Lawrence County community that now runs primarily on gambling dollars.

The bill proposed by Senator Tom Nelson of Lead would raise the betting limit in Deadwood from $100 to $1000.

Deadwood gambling revenues dropped 5 percent in 2011 according to state figures, though some casino operators said it could have been more but aggressive promotions and free play softened the blow.
