'Mayor' Rules Thursday Fair Grounds Feature
NEW ORLEANS, LA. (January 25, 2007) --
Hargus Sexton’s Mayor Bozarth engaged front-running Tactical Weapon at the head of the stretch and went on to capture a photo finish Thursday’s featured allowance at Fair Grounds Race Course.
The winner, ridden by James Graham, toured the about one mile distance over the firm Stall-Wilson turf course in 1:40.92 and returned $5.20, $3 and $2.40 to his backers.
The win was Mayor Bozarth’s second lifetime win, both at the Fair Grounds meet. He broke his maiden over a yielding course here Dec. 15.
Tactical Weapon, who set the early fractions of :24.69, :49.87, and 1:17.35, dueled with the winner throughout the final furlong but could not match Mayor Bozarth in the last strides. He finished 3 1/4 lengths in front of Elluna.
Tactical Weapon paid $3.40 and $2.40, and Elluna returned $2.60.
Racing resumes Friday at Fair Grounds with a 10-race program and a first post of 12:30 p.m.
