The opening day feature on the 11-race card is a $12,000 Invitational Pace featuring a talented field of six older horses.
Whosurboy, the surprise winner of the $100,000 New Hampshire Sweepstakes in 2004 and always a local favourite, figures to attract plenty of support at the windows with Michael MacDonald in the bike. David Ingraham, the leading driver here in 2005, is back to defend his title and he will partner with Iron Legend. That horse should also go postward with significant backing.
Sopando, Headmaster, Tarver Hanover, and Copperfield G round out the field in the Opening Day feature.
Rockingham, which first debuted in 1906 as a Thoroughbred track, will celebrate its golden anniversary throughout the season with a strong racing progran coupled with special promotions and family events. On Opening Day, fans can register to win a BBQ grill and grilling accessory package as part of the Miller Lite Summer Fun series, and every paid admission over 18 will receive a free season pass. The season pass giveaway promotion lasts until June 7th.
This year, Rockingham has attracted several powerhouse new stables to challenge the outfits who have established themselves since the track switched from Thoroughbred competition to Standardbred racing in 2003. Anthony Mannino, Chuck Connors, and Ricky Maher, Jr. are among the newcomers who figure to make an instant impression.
All of the top drivers from last season are back to try and take the title from Ingraham, who tallied 139 victories and won $637,685 in purses in 2005. Those drivers include James Marohn, Jr., MacDonald, Ron Cushing, and Hall of Famer Jim Doherty.
Rockingham will present live racing on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays this season and post time is always 1.05 pm.
The track's signature race, the $120,000 New Hampshire Sweepstakes, will be held on June 3 and Rockingham will celebrate its official 100th birthday that day with a commemorative pin giveaway.
Full card simulcasting from all of the best Thoroughbred, harness, and greyhound tracks is offered seven days per week from noon to midnight on a year-round basis.
