A bus returning from a casino rolled onto its side in a construction zone early Saturday, injuring 11 passengers and closing the roadway for more than two hours, authorities said.
Eleven of the 34 passengers on board the B&W Charters bus were taken to area hospitals with mostly bumps and bruises, Ottawa County Sheriff's Sgt. Bill DeWitt said.
The bus had left Little River Casino Resort in Manistee about 2 a.m. and was returning to the Kalamazoo area, DeWitt said. In a construction zone on eastbound Interstate 96 where the road narrows to one lane, the 43-year-old driver went too far to the right, DeWitt said.
The bus went onto the shoulder and rolled onto its right side into a ditch, DeWitt said.
A message seeking comment was left Saturday at the Kalamazoo offices of B&W Charters.
The crash remained under investigation and authorities planned to determine whether the driver would be cited.
Wright Township is located in western Michigan, about 10 miles west of Grand Rapids. |
