TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Kansas Speedway and a Las Vegas company are applying for permission to build a casino near the raceway in Kansas City.
Their applications are the second and third proposals for a hotel-and-casino complex in Wyandotte County. Kansas Lottery officials expect to receive a fourth plan before Monday's application deadline passes.
The Speedway is partnering with a The Cordish Company of Baltimore. Cordish developed two Hard Rock hotel and casinos in Florida, and the new venture would have the same brand name.
The casino would be on the Speedway grounds and overlook a turn in the track.
The other applications are from Pinnacle Entertainment of Las Vegas, for a complex next to a planned water park, and the Golden Gaming, also of Las Vegas. Its site is also near the Speedway, but west and south of Interstate 70. |
