WORLEY, Idaho -- An explosion and fire inside a cargo container behind the Coeur d'Alene Tribal Bingo Casino killed two workers Thursday, a sheriff's spokesman said.

The badly burned bodies of both victims were found inside the metal shipping container, which was used for storage about 150 yards from the main casino building, Kootenai County sheriff's spokesman Ben Wolfinger said.

The victims are presumed to be casino employees Donald S. Hanson, 56, of Fairfield, Wash., and Richard E. Stokes, 49, of Rockford, Wash., the sheriff's office said. Positive identifications will be made with dental records next week.

"At this time, this appears to be a tragic accident," Wolfinger said.

The fire also destroyed a casino-owned pickup parked nearby that the victims had been using, Chief Keith Hutcheson of the Coeur d'Alene Indian Tribal Police said. He said the fire did not appear to be arson.

Several fireworks stands operate on the Coeur d'Alene reservation, but Hutcheson would not say if any fireworks or explosives had been stored in the container. He declined to say what was in the storage unit.

The fire did not interrupt casino operations, Hutcheson said. About 700 people work at the casino about 20 miles south of Coeur d'Alene in north Idaho.

The sheriff's office and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were investigating.
