Investigators believe that three Mobile teenagers and a 21-year-old man are the parking-lot bandits accused of armed robberies at casino resorts in Biloxi and a hotel in D'Iberville.
Local officials were trying to solve their recent cases when the suspects allegedly followed a Mobile woman from a Wal-Mart in Tillman's Corner to her home near Hillcrest Road. Her purse was stolen at gunpoint in her driveway. The suspects were arrested in that area the next day while traveling in a Buick Roadmaster reported stolen by an elderly Florida couple stranded in D'Iberville, authorities said.
"One bright spot is the elderly couple was able to get their car back and some of their clothes," said Harrison County Sheriff's Capt. Ron Pullen.
"The irony of this deal, though," said Pullen, "is the elderly woman had a fanny pack that she used when she went to the casinos. Our investigators and Mobile police found it in a Dumpster at a Mobile apartment building. They found 10 $100 bills stuck in a special pocket. The woman got her money back."
The two-state crime spree started in a Biloxi parking garages Sept. 11. That's when guests at the IP Casino Resort and the Beau Rivage reported they were approached by gunmen as they walked toward their cars.
A couple at the IP were robbed of their money, identification and luggage. The victim at the Beau started screaming and thwarted the robbery, said Police Investigator Michael Brown.
The holdup near Hillcrest Road in Mobile was reported at 8:20 p.m. Thursday.
Around 1 a.m. Friday, the elderly Florida couple reported the carjacking in the parking lot of Regency Inn on Bobby Eleuterius Boulevard. The man was struck in the head with a gun and required medical treatment.
Less than two hours later, Mobile police stopped four males on Hillcrest Road in a Buick without a license plate. Police said they recovered two handguns and the Mobile woman's purse. Harrison County investigators took the elderly couple to Mobile to identify the suspects and get their car out of impound.
The suspects are Clarence Dennis Dees, 21; Antwaun L. King, 18; Robert James Perkins, 17; and Travaris Montrell Perkins, 16. Mobile police arrested them on robbery charges. They were held without bond at the Mobile Metro Jail.
Harrison County investigators have charged them with carjacking, armed robbery and aggravated assault with bonds of $300,000 each.
Biloxi police were filing related charges Monday afternoon. |
